Intervention Techniques in Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy

Marion Lindblad-Goldberg, Ph.D., LMFT, 2 1:15 pm to 4:30 pm $50 3CE

Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT) is an evidence-based treatment model. Within each stage of treatment, there are specific interventions that produce incremental change. This workshop reviews the stages of treatment and describes the most frequently used interventions: boundary making, punctuating behavioral complementarily, eliciting strengths, unbalancing power alignments, and raising intensity. Special emphasis is given to the intervention of enactment. Enactments are described that test hypotheses about current structure, strength of attachment, and a preferred approach to emotional regulation as well as how to promote growth-promoting interaction. Videotaped case material demonstrates these interventions.
