The Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Center, Inc. was created as an outgrowth of the Family Therapy Training Center founded by Salvador Minuchin, M.D. in 1975 to offer training and research in family therapy and developmentally-based approaches to child and adolescent behavioral health issues. Most of the Center's faculty worked with Dr. Minuchin at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic as the concepts of Structural Family Therapy were defined and promulgated during the 1970s. From the mid-1980s to the present, Dr. Marion Lindblad-Goldberg's model, "Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy" has been taught by the faculty. This more current model is a bio/developmental/systemic trauma informed model that has received empirical support for its effectiveness in treating children and adolescents with severe emotional and behavioral disturbances. The Training Center's activities include on-site and off-site programs of education, consultation, training and supervision in an integrative ecosystemic structural family therapy approach to interventions with children, adolescents, couples and families. The faculty probably has trained more family therapists than any other in the world.
