Theoretical/Historical Development of Family Therapy I & II

(Mandatory for Intensive Trainees) Area I Courses

These two 45-hour courses, which must be taken together, detail the major schools and theories of family therapy from its beginning origins to the present. They have been developed to be in compliance with AAMFT’s Area 1 Courses. $700 per course.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Provide an historical context for understanding the current theory and practice of family therapy as applied to everyday clinical concerns.
  2. Learn basic assumptions regarding problem formation and change for the major models of family therapy.
  3. Identify the fundamental concepts of family therapy which have endured across time and which are accepted across all models.
